6 Week Mindfulness Course

About Mindfulness:

Mindfulness has been gathering much attention over recent years as a tried-and-tested method of reducing stress, anxiety, pain and depression. It can help us to make more informed choices and gain fulfillment where it is lacking. By helping us to focus our attention on the present moment and not get swept up in worrying or negative thoughts about the past or future, mindfulness can help us to:
  • Learn to cope better with the pressures we find ourselves under
  • Recognise the thoughts and judgments we make, often subconsciously, that can generate more stress
  • Find our balance and cultivate a sense of innate calmness and control

About the Course:

The course consists of six, one and a half hour sessions. The 6-week course is based on the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programme, originally developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn in the late 1970s, and includes components of the related Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) programme that explicitly address the negative thought patterns that can perpetuate stress and lead to depression or anxiety for example. During the course you will gain a sound understanding of the theory and practice of mindfulness, but the sessions will largely be experiential allowing you to cultivate new skillful ways of dealing with what goes on in your body, mind and life. In addition to the exercises there will also be an informational component to the course, as well as group discussion on how to apply mindfulness to your everyday life. To get the most out of the course you should be willing to take part in the group exercises and be an active part of the discussions. Mindfulness is most interesting and informative when you are fully engaged.

This course requires no previous knowledge or experience of mindfulness and will start from the very beginning. The course is also a good opportunity to make a commitment to showing up and building a regular practice over a series of weeks. It takes this kind of repetition over time to form new patterns of thinking and habits.
There will also be the opportunity to attend a full-day mindfulness retreat (not-included in the price) which will be uniquely designed as an exercise in incorporating mindfulness into the flow of life, and will include a variety of formal and guided practices as well as a silent lunch.

The course will be entirely in english.
